How to fix Screen Overlay Detected in any android device - Problem Solved

How to fix Screen Overlay Detected in any android device - Problem Solved

I’ve recently joined a site where people ask for help with their android phones, and by far the most asked question is about the screen overlay on the J7 and other phones, after countless hours of working with people, I think I found a solution that should work for everyone.
Here is a video I made detailing the solution to this problem, so many people are having.

If you find that the video didn't solve the problem, please let me know as I am trying to find a solution that will work for everyone.
If you need help with your android phone you can ask on drippler: Drippler - Tech Support & Tips - Android Apps on Google Play

Just disabling the Draw over other apps permission for certain apps would help you with this. Do check out the following steps:

How to fix Screen Overlay Detected in any android device

Method 1
  1. First and foremost thing to avoid this Screen Overlay Detected error is to exit the apps that are having Screen Overlay or floating windows.
  2. Apps such as Facebook Messenger, Twilight, Lux, Internet Speed Meter, Clean Master, etc. are the main cause in this case, as they’ll always be having screen overlay option enabled.
  3. If you’re having any of these apps and they’re running (like Messenger chat head or Twilight filter), simple fix would be to exit the app before installing any new app or after it asks to disable Screen Overlay.
Bonus Tip : Uninstall Clean Master, DU Speed Booster, Go Speed & other cleaners and speed boosters from your phone. Not only they can be causing screen overlay detected pop up every damn time, they’ll be actually the apps that are causing more battery drain and ram usage. Oh by the way, the data they show cleaned are mostly fake and RAM cleaning is not required for Android (I’ll talk about this in a different post:) ).
This works only if you know which app is causing the screen overlay problem, and if you’re not sure about that, you can follow the next method given below.

Method 2
In this method, we’re going to disable all the screen overlays by all apps all together to run your new app for the first time. So when screen overlay detected pop up is shown in an app, follow the below given steps :
  1. Open Settings by clicking on the gear icon in notification bar.
  2. Scroll down, you’ll find the “Apps” option. Click on that.
  3. Now click on the gear button on top right, as given in this image.
  4. In this screen. you’ll find “Draw over other apps”, click on that.
  5. You can alternatively find this option by searching the “Settings” menu for “Draw”. You can just click on the magnification glass icon on the top right on the Settings menu for that.
  6. Now, in the “Draw over other apps” screen, you can see the apps which are having the Screen overlay/Draw over other apps permission.
  7. You can click on each app and uncheck “Permit drawing over other apps”.
  8. Now, clear the app you were trying to run from “Recents screen” and open the app again, you’ll not see the “Screen Overlay Detected” again!
  9. One more step is left, that is to reactivate the screen overlays that you’ve disabled before. Just go back to the “Draw over other apps” settings from recents and recheck all the apps you’ve disabled. Else, you won’t be able to use those apps.
Additionally, if you find some unknown apps in there, you know what to do, uninstall them! This must solve the screen overlay detected Android error on most phones.
Now the Method 2 works for phones on Stock Android. In Samsung phones, the steps can be a little different. Follow the below given steps for Samsung phones:
  1. Launch the Settings app from your home screen or app drawer.
  2. Scroll down and tap Applications.
  3. Tap Application Manager.
  4. Tap More to open the menu in the top right corner.
  5. Tap Apps that can appear on top.
  6. From here, you'll need to track down the app that needs permission to use a screen overlay — usually the app you were just using. When you've found it, tap the toggle next to it to turn it off, and you should be good to go.
  7. Once you're done, try starting the app you were originally using once again. With any luck, you'll be able to grant it permissions and start using it as normal.
In other Android phones, just try the Method 2, or you can just search the options for “Draw over other apps”, and follow from step 6 in method 2 given above.
NOTE : Found these solutions from some sites. Attaching them as sources below. In case you need explanations with screenshots, visit these sites.

Android Tips : How do I turn off the screen overlay in Samsung Android Marshmallow - Problem Solved

Mohammed Ismail Sharief Says :

Open the Settings
Then Applications > Application manager
Press on More > Apps that can appear on top
You will find yourself in front of a list of apps that have permission to use floating buttons or other screen overlays. Now you need to identify the problem app and temporarily deny it permission to draw over the screen. Here is are some pointers on how to identify the app that’s causing trouble:
Do you see an app bubble on your screen? If do, this app is almost certainly the cause. Either you hide the app bubble or disable the app in the list
Do you have an app installed that changes the colors on the display or adjusts the brightness?
Reportedly, Clean Master can be a trouble maker. If you see Clean Master in the list, disable it
If there’s no obvious cause, disable everything
Now you can try launching the app again, and it should request permissions without the “Display overlay detected” error getting in the way.
We have also received a report that suggests the one-handed keyboard setting could be the root cause. Deactivate it by going to Settings> Advanced features > One-handed operation.
Drupe can also be a victim of the screen overlay error, but here it is fixed. / © AndroidPIT
Step four: reactivate screen overlays
In order for the app(s) that you have disabled in step two to work again, you need to re-enable its overlay permissions. If you turned off all apps, it might be worth considering only reactivating those apps that you actually use.
This is a rather inelegant workaround, but it's the best we have until Google makes the necessary changes to prevent app overlays from interfering with permission dialogues.
